Housed in Iliou Melathron, a work of Ernest Chiller, the Numismatic Museum is a real jewel for Athens. The permanent exhibition focuses on ancient Greek coin and its history stretching from the Roman period until the contemporary times and also the history of the Numismatic Museum, and the German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, known for his excavations in Troy and Mycenae and was the first resident of Iliou Melathron. The contemporary way of displaying the coins divided in interesting themed sections, the temporary collections and the events, the gift shop with replicas of ancient Greek coins and jewellery but also the cafe in the beautiful garden draw the attention of the visitor.
